WHAT IS HOLISTIC NUTRITION?

Holistic nutrition is part of a Wellness & Lifestyle Program designed to radically improve your health and your knowledge of how to feed yourself— in all areas of your life. The philosophy of this work is that wellness is an expression of the complex interplay between the physical, chemical, mental and emotional, as well as spiritual and environmental aspects of one’s life and being.

We look at your present diet and lifestyle as well as long-term goals, and we empower YOU to create sustainable life changes that support your optimal health.

The emphasis that traditional "diets" place on willpower, deprivation and denial is both unnecessary and counter-productive. The reality is that unless you have a plan that is practical, works with your existing lifestyle and takes your individuality into account, it will not last.

How it works

Holistic Nutrition Programs are part of a 12-week Wellness & Lifestyle Program. We determine what your goals are and create a customized nutrition and lifestyle plan. Doctors, naturopaths and other practitioners are resourced to provide the specific test and supplements required to treat and address food allergies, hormone imbalances, blood sugar issues, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other common conditions.

The plan we create together is like a map, a personal guidebook for the process of creating a quantum shift
in the way you nourish your body

To begin, we will press the “restart button” in your body via a required five-, ten- or twenty-one day cleanse. Cleanses include herbal and food-based supplements to assist your body in ridding itself of stored toxins and incompletely digested foods. Additionally, colon hydrotherapy may be recommended in order to provide the appropriate support to rid your body of an accumulation of toxins. This beginning cleanse prepares your body to fully receive the imprint of what being truly fed feels like and creates a "clear space" for the assimilation of nutrients imperative for good health.

In order to sustain the lifestyle changes, your intention, commitment and follow-through are imperative.

We will have regular coaching sessions to serve as a bridge between where you are and where you ultimately wish to be. Together we will discover and incorporate new healthy foods and practices that truly support YOU. This process of discovery includes creating shopping lists, recipes, and menus, as well as exploring healthy cooking and preparation methods that will form the basis of your new way of nourishing yourself.

As you begin to feel better, old habits will fade away and other areas of your life (including relationship, career and creativity) will start to improve. You will then naturally begin to crave foods and activities that support the balance of your life and you will feel inspired to take care of yourself, implementing practices that are truly of benefit to you.

My Training

My foundational training began with Paul Pichford, author of Healing With Whole Foods at the Heartwood Institute, where I received a certification in Whole Foods Nutritional Counseling. This approach to nutrition prioritizes three basic integrative steps in a person’s pathway to enduring health: a) awareness practices b) mindful movement including yoga, Tai chi and Qi Gong and c) nutrition based on regional, unrefined (whole) foods.

The basis of my training is in the nutritional aspects of the principles of Five Elements based in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I was also trained to work with the energetic of foods and their influence to both tonify the body, as well as the art of proper cleanses and detoxifying. A strong emphasis of this program was in food combining and the thermal natures and qualities of food to support the different and interrelated organs in the body and on the art of customized cleansing to treat an array of health concerns as an adjunct to other traditional therapies. The main focus of Healing with Whole Foods is that there is no one diet that is right for everyone, and that at different stages in our development our bodies require different nutritional needs and support. It is through our own awareness that we can determine the appropriate diet to support the life we want to consciously step into.

In working with people over the years I have learned to recognize that even minor shifts in our diet can have a tremendous effect on our attitudes and on our lives. The simplicity of knowing what diet supports your overall balance can radically improve your health and well-being. A diet of organic whole foods is one of the most powerful tools we have to support and heal the vast majority of our health imbalances and is an important compliment to other forms of medicine.
