Yoga and Pilates

Yoga practice is one of the most powerful tools for deepening our self-awareness, the foundation of any process of personal transformation.

Yoga re-aligns and connects the structural body, it clears the mind, and it moves our stuck emotional energy and brings us home to a deeper sense of ourselves.

The full spectrum of Hatha yoga practices includes more than asana. Asana is only effective therapeutically within the context of yoga as a whole. Pranayama, mudra, bandha, guided self-imagery and meditation, are equally important in the therapeutic process.

WHO CAN DO YOGA?

There are no pre-requisites to begin practicing yoga.
Yoga is for everyone irrespective of age, gender, belief system, cultural background or ability. It offers a broad range of tools that can be tailored by a skilled teacher to suit the unique needs of each individual student.

The development of a personal practice can serve any person in their quest to find the wisdom and healing power within and reach the fullest of one's potential.

WHY WE NEED A PERSONAL PRACTICE

A personal yoga practice addresses health conditions on the physical, energetic, spiritual and emotional levels. 

On a structural level, we subject our bodies to various levels of physical abuse, whether we are active or sedentary. Results of habitual movement patterns of repetitive strain, postural misalignment, tight, stiff or weak muscles can cause more serious problems and result in chronic lower back pain, tension in the neck, etc. 

With the proper application of asana, we can change
habitual patterns to promote skeletal alignment and decrease physical stresses

 
On an energetic level, many of us our unaware of own limiting belief systems, self-imposed judgments and emotions that lie just below the surface. The practice of yoga allows us to wake up to who we are and move out of fear and survival mode and into a centered place of peace and calm. A yoga practice reconnect with our heart and our center.

Ultimately, with proper application of asana, we can change habitual patterns at the neuromuscular level, develop new patterns that decrease physical stress and promote skeletal alignment.

Through a regular practice we can re-align ourselves emotionally and spiritually to create a sense of wholeness and unity that can lead to optimal wellness.

WHAT IS VINIYOGA?

As individuals on our path, we are all at different places with different bodies and different histories and our purposes for yoga are often different as well

Viniyoga refers to an approach to yoga that adapts the various methods of practice to the unique condition, needs and interests of the individual. Practices are customized specifically for you. This approach has been handed down for centuries in India. In the past 100 years, it has been sustained in India and expanded to Europe and the United States by Krishnamacharya and his son, TKV Desikachar and has been customized to US audiences through the work of Gary Kraftsow.

WHAT IS Pilates?

Pilates focuses on integrating the abdominals, lower back and hips to improve strength, flexibility, posture, balance and muscular symmetry. Pilates is also proven as a highly valuable rehabilitation tool used to achieve excellent alignment and stabilization of the body. Benefits include movement repatterning, joint decompression, and postural alignment.

I am able to create challenging and progressive practices for healthy, able-bodied students as well as gentle, retorative and therapeutic practices to assist students with health conditions or students who need special care.
